A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Welcome to the 2018 Annual Report for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud. In 2018 we continued to work towards  our mission of building communities, promoting family life, and enhancing human dignity by providing quality services to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals and families of all faiths and beliefs in our community. 

This is something that we cannot accomplish alone and over the past year we have been humbled by the overwhelming support that we received from our employees, volunteers, donors, and stake holders. We invite you to look at what we have accomplished in 2018 and hope that you will be inspired to join us and continue in your support of Catholic Charities.

TOGETHER, we made a difference in the lives of 52,655 of our Central Minnesota neighbors in 2018 and TOGETHER we can build a stronger Central Minnesota!

Catholic Charities is a non-profit organization that advances the charitable and social mission of the Diocese of St. Cloud. We build communities, promote family life, and enhance human dignity by providing quality services to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals and families of all faiths and beliefs.

HOUSING SERVICES

Catholic Charities Housing Services fulfills our belief that no one should be without a safe place to live. We value our community and we know that we would not be able to serve those in need without donors and volunteers. 

We help provide housing assistance for veterans and the disabled, homeless youth, and transitional housing for women & children.
  • 829 served through housing management services
  • 44 homeless women and their children were given temporary housing and support services at Domus Transitional Housing and Emily’s place
  • 7 Veterans received temporary transitional housing
  • 854 homeless youth were given temporary housing, mentoring, and life skills support through Catholic Charities Services for Homeless Youth

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Our emergency services give people someone to lean on when they need it most and help them become healthier members of their communities. Emergency services provide food to those in need in our community. Financial and housing counseling helps keep people in their homes and provides members of our community with a safe place for their families to live. 
  • 1,915,842 lbs. of food were distributed to 5,551 households in Central MN
  • 30,625 people were helped at Catholic Charities Emergency Services. Clients received food, clothing, and financial assistance, along with help from special programs such as the Holiday Toy Program
  • 794 received financial and housing counseling

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Catholic Charities Caritas Mental Health Clinic is an outpatient counseling and behavioral health facility operating in St. Cloud and through satellite sites throughout Central Minnesota. The goal of our multi-disciplinary team is to promote the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being of all people through its mental health services.
  • 477 people received support through individual, family, and marriage counseling
  • 117 people received support through the Catholic Charities Men’s Domestic Abuse Support Group and Women’s Self-Esteem Support Group
  • 963 people received support through the Hope Community Support Program for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness
  • 313 individuals took classes to help divorcing couples co-parent their children successfully

SENIOR HEALTH & WELLNESS

We provide a number of programs for senior health & wellness, such as foster grandparent programs, meals on wheels, senior dining, diabetes workshops, and much more.
  • 152 individuals received support through health promotions workshops
  • 313,805 meals were provided to 5,398 seniors
  • 10,493 children received mentoring and support from 203 foster grandparents

DAY TREATMENT

Catholic Charities Day Treatment programs seek to help students with emotional and behavioral disorders function more successfully in their homes, schools and communities.

We work with children and their families; we know that family involvement is essential to a child’s success and that a child’s success is essential to a happy, healthy family.
  • 72 youth and their families were served by Catholic Charities Day Services Programs in St. Cloud 
  • 45 youth and their families were served by Catholic Charities Day Services Programs in Elk River
  • 15 children, ages 3 - 6, were served through our Younger Learners Program, which offers intensive outpatient day treatment for children who have experienced significant trauma.

SOCIAL CONCERNS

The Catholic Charities’ Social Concerns Office implements ongoing support of parish social ministry committees in the parishes within the 16 counties of the Diocese of St. Cloud. The program also educates and advocates at the local, state, and national levels on legislative issues relevant to the teachings of the Catholic Church. It also provides support and resources to farm families and rural communities, as well as  leading activities for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development in the Diocese of St. Cloud.
  • 124 individuals received ongoing support for Parish Social Ministry
  • 750 people attended the Rural Life Celebration in rural Gilman
  • 1,343 individuals received support through presentations, weekend liturgy, meetings, and retreats

SERVICES FOR PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

Our mission includes building communities, promoting family life and enhancing human dignity. Nowhere is our mission more fulfilled than in our services to persons with developmental disabilities. We believe that each person served deserve the respect and dignity due every human being. We do our very best to meet each person served where they are, and encourage them to develop their skills and abilities, so they may live the best life possible.
  • 115 individuals were served through our in-home program, which helps support persons with developmental disabilities
  • 63 individuals with physical and developmental disabilities, and mental illness received specialized care and housing.
