Celebrating Our 2026 Good Samaritan Award Recipients
Catholic Charities honors Mark Thelen and Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) with the 2026 Good Samaritan Award for outstanding service in Central Minnesota.
At Catholic Charities, we believe everyone deserves access to healthy food. Specifically, this includes the basic necessities needed to thrive. Through our food access programs, we help individuals, families, older adults, and neighbors facing financial hardship. In turn, we meet immediate needs while building greater stability for the future.
Whether you’re visiting our Food Shelf at Emergency Services or receiving meals through Senior Nutrition, we’re here to help. Or you can access groceries through our Mobile Food Bus. Also at Emergency Services, you can shop for clothing and household items at our Basic Everyday Essentials store or receive support through our Financial Assistance program. Throughout it all, we help with compassion, dignity, and respect.
Food insecurity affects thousands of families across Central Minnesota every year. Without reliable access to nutritious food, it becomes harder to stay healthy. Similarly, it makes it harder to keep a job or focus in school. As a result, food access is at the core of everything we do. Often, it’s the first, most immediate need a neighbor brings to us.
Our programs are designed to meet people where they are. This holds true no matter their circumstances. For example, from a senior on a fixed income to a parent between jobs, we offer support without judgment. Then, as needs grow, we connect neighbors to additional resources.
Together, these programs help reduce food insecurity and improve health outcomes. Ultimately, they also help strengthen communities across our 16-county service area.
