Matter of Balance

Falls can happen anytime, anyplace and to anyone. Having a fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself.

People who experience a fear of falling often limit their physical activities, which can result in loss of strength, reduced muscle tone and balance problems, making the risk of falling greater. A Matter of Balance can help older adults increase activity levels, improve their quality of life and remain independent.

Have you turned down a chance to go out with family or friends because you were concerned about falling?

Have you cut down on a favorite activity because you might fall?

If you or someone you know has fallen, you are not alone.

Gain strength, flexibility and confidence by attending A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls workshop.
A Matter of Balance can benefit older adults who:
  • are concerned about falls
  • have had a fall in the past
  • restrict activities because of concerns about falling
  • are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength
Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength/balance.

All sessions are 8 week sessions.
To register for any workshop, contact Mare Simpler at 320.229.4591. Payment is due at the time of registration.
Note: Most workshops require a minimum number of participants.  If the minimum is not met, the workshop will be cancelled.
Catholic Charities hosts workshops at the request of community members or groups. If you would like to see a workshop offered in your community, please contact Mare Simpler at 320.229.4591. Mare will explain the minimum number of participants and will work with you to secure a suitable space to host the workshop in your community.
Catholic Charities will provide training to employee groups for a fee. The funds raised from these for-fee engagements allow us to provide more community opportunities to the seniors we serve.
Fees to employers are based on the workshop selected and the distance from Catholic Charities offices in St. Cloud.
