The 2016 Rural Life Celebration a glorious success on Gilman Dairy farm
(Gilman, MN) – Setting a new record, nearly 900 people gathered at the 2016 Rural Life Celebration, held Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the Mark & Shelley Czech Farm in rural Gilman. This annual outdoor family-friendly celebration was hosted by Saint Peter and Saint Paul of Gilman; Saint Elizabeth of Brennyville and Saint Joseph of Morrill. Catholic Charities, The Catholic Foundation and the Diocese of St. Cloud were co-sponsors of the event, an annual salute to rural living and caring for God’s creation.
The celebration began amid sunny, blue skies with an outdoor Mass with Bishop Donald Kettler presiding. Mass was followed by guest speaker Father Greg Mastey, a native of Gilman and current board member of the National Rural Life who spoke of both his childhood in the Gilman area and the work he has done on a the national level on rural life issues.
The day continued into the afternoon with a free lunch that featured Sloppy Joe’s, corn on cob, coleslaw, chips and homemade cookies. Farm tours, a petting zoo, and musical entertainment by the Ostendorf Band delighted the guests throughout the afternoon.
Thank you to the parish community, the Mark and Shelley Czech family and all of the local individuals and businesses who generously donated their time, talents and gifts to make the celebration possible.
