Children receiving supplies today may not have gotten pencils
Catholic Charities staff and volunteers spent their first day of Back to School distribution handing out pencils, pens, markers and notebooks to St. Cloud area children. But, as boxes of supplies were emptied, there wasn’t always another one to take its place.
“Some of the kids who came today didn’t get pencils,” said Chad Kaushagen, coordinator of the Back to School program at Catholic Charities Emergency Services. “How much more basic of a supply can you get?”
Staff say just about any school supply will be appreciated, though they are out of pencils, washable markers, dry-erase markers, erasers, college ruled notebooks and glue sticks.
Catholic Charities has 1,500 more students to serve before their back to school distribution closes on August 28.
Kaushagen says donations are being accepted “Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.” Catholic Charities accepts donations at 157 Roosevelt Road in St. Cloud, which is located just behind Tenvoorde Ford.
