Catholic Charities Announces $400,000 challenge gift
Nine Individuals Challenge Community to Donate to Capital Campaign
What if you could do something today, that would impact Central Minnesotans for generations to come?
Nine generous donors are challenging community members to do just that, together contributing $400,000 for Catholic Charities, Saving Children, Saving Families campaign, and challenging Central Minnesotans to do the same.
Catholic Charities is an organization that works to put itself out of business- each staff member and volunteer tries daily to break the cycle of poverty in communities across the heart of our state.

Unfortunately, the chance that the need for their over 40 services will dry up completely is unlikely.
“People will always have times of trouble, people will always need others to lean on,” said Steve Bresnahan, Executive Director of Catholic Charities. “There are people in our community who need food, a safe place to live and hope that tomorrow will be better; that’s a need that’s increased during my time at Catholic Charities, and hopefully will eventually decrease, but will never truly go away.”

Bresnahan goes on to explain that the campaign, which has already raised more than $3 million, first helped finance the new Intensive Treatment Cottage at Catholic Charites St. Cloud Children’s Home. The remaining dollars the organization is working to raise will help the organization create an endowment, which will be used in the community in time of increased need.

“When the recent recession hit, community members really stepped up to help those who were suddenly in need in our community,” said Bresnahan. “We hope that will always be the case, but when a town is wiped out by a flood or tornado, as happened a few years ago in Wadena, funds are needed immediately. We can’t wait to ask and gather, we have to spring into action and help.”

By planning now, Bresnahan says, the organization is preparing for future disasters, crises and potential budget shortfalls.

“This is really the most critical campaign we’ve ever undertaken.”
