Matter of Balance
Have you turned down a chance to go out with family or friends because you were concerned about falling?
Have you cut down on a favorite activity because you might fall?
If you or someone you know has fallen, you are not alone. Falls can happen anytime, anyplace and to anyone. Falls can occur while doing everyday activities. Having a fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself.
People who experience a fear of falling often limit their physical activities, which can result in loss of strength, reduced muscle tone and balance problems, making the risk of falling greater. Many older adults also experience increased isolation and depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends. A Matter of Balance can help older adults increase activity levels, improve their quality of life and remain independent.
Gain strength and flexibility confidence by attending A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls.
A Matter of Balance can benefit older adults who:
Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.
All sessions are 8 week sessions.
