Community Alternative for Handicapped Individuals (CAHI)

Catholic Charities Community Alternative for Handicapped Individuals (CAHI) home provides home-like surrounding and services that respond to each person's specific needs. CAHI's professional staff and a full-time nurse is available to assist residents with integration into the surrounding community, interaction and socialization with home and family, occupational and/or physical therapy, psychological and/or spiritual counseling, and coordination and transportation to medical appointments.
Families can have confidence in our commitment to their loved ones and our ability to deliver quality services. Catholic Charities faith-based mission encourages a warm, supportive environment where the individual is treated with love and dignity. Experience has taught us to serve the total person who is in our care. Physical, recreational, emotional, and spiritual requirements are addressed by our staff of caregivers. Finally, our goal is to encourage as much independence as possible for the adult in our care, accepting the existing level of competence as a good beginning place.
When Marcy* became involved in the care of her sister who was physically disabled,
she
saw first-hand how staff at Catholic Charities homes worked to create a
home environment for the residents. She saw that for her sister, "going
home" truly meant returning to a residence where she was comfortable,
secure, and where support staff treated her sister with dignity and respected
her home as if they were the guests. Nancy can "absolutely recommend" Catholic
Charities to anyone who needs a place to live that will provide them with above-average
care and independence.

Catholic Charities residential programs operate on referrals from social service agencies, public and private, which must screen, approve, and recommend people to our care. Often these individuals are already receiving some kind of services but are in need of a higher level of cares as their disabilities progress.
We can also accommodate people on a private-pay basis. Most people will be eligible for MA services through various waivered programs through county and state agencies.
